About Given the Givens

Given the Givens aspires to give you an inside look at what it’s like to be the mama of three terrific kids, one of whom has autism. Given the givens of a life-changing diagnosis, what can we do to reach our full potential? Grounded in functional nutrition and lifestyle, I seek to show how we can optimize our health and wellness every day, even while managing a chronic illness.  I believe a diagnosis might be life changing but it doesn’t necessarily need to be life limiting.

What to Expect from Given the Givens:

This project is unfolding, but for now: you can expect one to four articles per month, delivered to your inbox, on a range of issues dealing with health, the outdoors, and parenting. I might occasionally veer off course and offer something slightly more whimsical like how I found my long-lost camp friend after 40 years or how the goats in Riverside Park helped me breath again after a bout with pneumonia in 2019.

Thus far, I’ve offered a nuanced take on the Covid vaccines and bolstering immune resilience. Future articles will include: how I healed my raging sciatica, being a woman of a certain age, and searching for an “appropriate” high school for my son. Of course, I’d love to hear what’s on your mind and what you need help navigating.

Please feel free to write to me with questions and comments. I love hearing from you, and I have a pretty good track record of responding. Also, if you’re new here, I’d love to hear how you heard about Given the Givens.

Thank you for subscribing and thank you for sharing my articles with your friends who are facing similar issues.
